Le Mans Series 2006
Round 3. Nürburgring 1000 Kilometers. July 15th-16th 2006

This gallery contains images from Round Three of the 2006 Le Mans Series, held at the Nürburgring in Germany over the weekend of July 15th and 16th 2006.

Thomas Erdos started the weekend by maintaining his unbeaten record in qualifying, posting fastest time in LMP2 to secure his fourth consecutive pole position - three in the Le Mans Series and a fourth in June's Le Mans 24 Hours. The first five hours of Sunday's six-hour race went perfectly to plan, with Tommy establishing an initial lead, briefly lost as a result of an alternator belt failure, but regained following an excellent middle double-stint from Mike Newton. Easing away with a generous margin over second, Erdos looked to be heading for a first Le Mans Series win of the year when a freak brake-pad failure pitched him into a spin. He returned to the pits, where the team replaced the front left disk, caliper and all pads, but the delay cost the team five laps and certain victory. Setting a succession of new fastest race laps, Erdos battled to the flag, but could only manage fourth in class. It was a frustrating end to a promising day.
