Daytona Rolex 24 Hours
January 26th-29th 2007
Gallery

This gallery contains images from the 2007 Daytona 24 Hours, staged in Florida over the weekend of January 28th and 29th 2007.

Mike Newton and Thomas Erdos joined Cheever Racing for the event, and shared the #51 Fabcar Porsche with team-owner Eddie Cheever Jnr and fellow American Harrison Brix. The car was in the early stages of an extensive re-development programme, and this was reflected, perhaps, in a lack of outright pace. It also proved to be a race that revealed some technical issues that hampered reliability. The car was not handling as sweetly as might have been hoped either, even though the team worked hard at finding the best set-up possible during free practice and qualifying. From the race start Eddie Cheever drove first stint, and set a steady pace that saw the Fabcar creeping steadily up the leaderboard. However, a series of brake and cooling-related problems subsequently cost the team valuable time. Later in the race Mike Newton was also hit by a car on the approach to the Bus-Stop Chicane, and while the TransVu on-board cameras clearly demonstrated that Mike bore no responsibility for the incident, the car suffered front-end damage and had to be brought behind the wall for the mechanics to make extensive repairs.

With additional time lost, the team had dropped way down the order. Having started 19th, the #51 Fabcar crossed the line after twenty-four demanding hours in 32nd place. Seventy cars started the race. See here for a press pre-race release.
